The first time I took my son Justin to wrestling, it was bigger for me than it was for him. I couldn't wait to share the experience of live event with my son, and I had wrangled some front row tickets, so we were in for quite a show. To top it off, it was summer, and the show was held outside at Murnane Field in Utica. (A baseball field for the old Utica Blue Jays.)He was excited, but had no idea what to expect. I was excited too, because it was the first time WCW had come to town, and the first time EVER, that Sting would grace Utica, NY. I waited years to see him live, and it finally happened. During the famed Monday Night Wars of WWF and WCW, house shows for both became big in demand. Finally WCW generated enough interest to sell a show here, so someone jumped on it. They brought tons of talent, and the show was incredible as anticipated, but I learned even more about wrestling that night after seeing it hundreds of times live, and I learned something about my son. How he did pay attention sometimes.

You always teach your kids to behave, especially in public. My kids were no exception, and they never gave me hassles for the most part. They feared my dirty look or my loud voice, so while they were little, it was effective. When Justin sat there, quiet as a mouse while everyone screamed and yelled at the wrestlers,(which mind you, are only about ten feet away.) I couldn't figure it out at first, then it hit me. He doesn't want to yell because he thinks I will get mad at him. I told him, yell, call that guy names. For the first couple times he would yell, look at me, seek my approval, then continue. By the end of the night, he called them everything and had no voice. And he'll never forget it, and neither will I. We still go to wrestling together, but it never matches that first time.

Ric Flair wrestled Big Show that night, but then he was The Giant, and brand new to the scene. If anyone remembers Paul White when he first popped on the scene, he wasn't that good and has improved greatly. Ric Flair would be why. They fought each other and being so close we could hear and see EVERYTHING. The match lasted about twenty minutes, and Ric dictated everything. He told Big Show to do this, do that, and even while he was falling backwards out of the ring, Ric said "follow me out". After all said and done, Ric lost. Proving why he's nothing less than a legend.

Sting did wrestle with Lex Luger against The Outsiders that night. Funny thing about wrestling loyalty, being this was a WWF area, the crowd sided with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash and after all those years of waiting for Sting to come? He was booed the entire time. Even when he did his patented yell, the crowd turned their backs on them and praised the ex-WWF boys. Weird, Huh?

Until next time....Remember ALWAYS! Kayfabe kicks A$$ -KJ
